As told by Mahans:
A gentleman took his horoscope, for future predictions, to a renowned astrologer. After going thro’ his horoscope, the astrologer has asked the gentleman to come the next day. On his way to his house, since it started raining, the gentleman waited inside an old temple. On seeing the condition of the temple, he thought had he got sufficient money would have renovated the temple. In the mean time the rain stopped and the gentleman proceeded to his house.
The next day he went and met the astrologer. At the sight of this gentleman the astrologer got a shock because according to the horoscope reading, the previous day was the last day of his life. The astrologer enquired the gentleman about what happened in between from the time he left his house yesterday and till now. The gentleman explained everything. The astrologer told him that the gentleman is blessed with the grace of God because he got extension of his life just by the thought of renovating that temple. He also told him that a person who contributes to the renovation of a temple in whichever way possible will get all righteous things in his life.
Mel Pappambadi Sivan Temple
Prime Deity: Karai Kandeswarar.
Goddesses : Periya Nayaki.
Melpappampadi village is located in between Gingee and Thiruvannamalai. This small village houses the sacred and ancient temple of over 1000 years old is presided by goddess Sri Periyanayagi sametha Karaikandeswarar Swami. For almost over 100 years poojas are not performed in this temple. With the blessings from The Acharya Swamigals of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam our foundation has decided to join hands with the villagers to renovate the temple.
THREE ACTS/ACTIONS WHICH CAN BE DONE BY EVERYONE, WHICH IF WE ARE BLESSED TO DO, IS CONSIDERED EQUIVALENT TO PERFORMING ASWAMETHAYAGA:
1 To help arrange/ support the entire expenses/ grant assistance for the cremation and to perform other last rites of unclaimed bodies,
2. To help arrange/ support the entire expenses/ grant assistance for the livelihood of any needy family.
3. To help renovate a dilapidated Siva temple, which is in ruins presently and do not have the wherewithal to perform even one pooja in a day to the deity and bring it to a position to perform at least one pooja in a day
The legend goes like this.... Ambal, the Goddess was on meditation at Walapandal village once. The day became evening and She orders son Muruga to fetch water for Her. Lord Muruga uses His lance or divine spear -the Vel and throws it on Merkuthodarchimalai - the range which starts at Chengam and ends at Polur. The rishis meditating in the hill attain moksham from the Vel of Lord Muruga. Hence the water from the hill flowed as blood from the bodies of the rishis. The kuruthi aaru - bloodriver which later on became holy crystal clear water as desired by His Mother Umadevi. The river is named after son known as SEYARU - child's river- and thus Sevvaru became Seyaru.
After this, temples came into being in the eastern side of the river where the Lord was called Sri Kailasanathar. Similarly temples came into being in the Western side called Sri Karaikandeswarar. The kshetras north and south of the seyyaru include, Kanchipuram, Kadaladi,Mambakkam, Madimangalam, Elathur, Poondi, Kuruvimalaikarakandeswarar, Northampoondi, Vasudevanpatti, Thamaraippakkam,Aridharamangalam, Pillur (Moottur), Karapoondi and Mandakolathur.
We request all of you to participate in the renovation work.
